Common Questions
HSA Account FAQ
Can I have an HSA with an ACA Bronze plan in 2026? +
Yes — this is the big change for 2026. All ACA Marketplace Bronze and Catastrophic plans are now HSA-eligible, up from just 4% of plans in 2025.
How much can I contribute to an HSA in 2026? +
The 2026 HSA contribution limits are $4,400 for individuals and $8,750 for families. If you're 55 or older, you can add an additional $1,000 catch-up contribution.
Can I have more than one HSA account? +
Yes. You can open HSA accounts at multiple custodians, but your total contributions across all accounts cannot exceed the annual limit.
Is Fidelity HSA really free? What's the catch? +
Fidelity's HSA genuinely has no monthly fees, no investment fees, and no transaction fees. Fidelity makes money on the cash float of uninvested balances. There's no catch for individual account holders.
What happens to my HSA if I switch jobs? +
Your HSA money is yours forever regardless of employment. You can roll the balance to any custodian once per year, tax-free.
Can I invest my HSA in stocks and ETFs? +
Yes. Fidelity allows investing from $1. Lively offers full brokerage via Charles Schwab. HealthEquity requires $500 minimum to invest (individual accounts), with a 0.03%/month admin fee on invested assets. HSA Bank (HSA Invest: Choice, Select or Managed) requires a qualifying cash balance before investing; fees are 0.10–0.35%/yr and waived when cash ≥ $7,500.
